The Shops and Commercial
Establishments Acts are state enactments which provides for the regulation of
conditions of work and employment in shops and commercial establishments. These
Acts provides safety, health and welfare provisions that the employer in such
establishment is required to implement. The owner or the authorized person of
the establishments covered under these Acts is required to register under the
Act(s).
These Acts provide for the
regulation of the opening and closing time as well as weekly holiday. The
primary aim of these Acts is to ensure safety, health and welfare for the
employees in such establishments. These Acts prohibit employment of children
and employment of women during night hours. These Acts further provide for
conviction and monetary penalty for the violation of safety, health and welfare
provisions by the employer.
As a progressive employer, it is imperative on
us to be aware of the latest amendments in the applicable Acts and Rules and
adopt/ follow these as part of our Compliance requirements.
